Are Women Peaceful? Reflections on the role of women in peace building
CentreLGS Annual Lecture 2008
a lecture by Hilary Charlesworth chaired by Zoe Pearson, Keele University .
Abstract; Women have played an important part in peacebuilding in many parts of the world. This lecture will consider the roles women have taken in peacebuilding in Bougainville, Timor-Leste and the Solomons in particular and the problems they face in these 'post-conflict' societies. It will use these examples to reflect on the way women, peace and security are constructed more generally in the international sphere.
